How to upgrade your Navori QL Server + Troubleshooting

Backup and upgrade

Written by Giuseppe

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ BELOW:

Customers upgrading to 2.2.5 and above -

Although the Navori software supports TLS 1.2 in 2.7, the Navori installer requires TLS 1.0/1.1 for the upgrade and can be removed afterwards.

1. If you are still using the old Minix X7 players or 2400 stix, please ensure the player upgrade is disabled on ALL Minix X7 players and 2400 stix, these players should not be auto-upgraded. The max version running on these are 2.0.9. Please also be aware that Navori has stopped support for Android 4.2, 4.4 - These are hardware should remain on the older version of he software as we cannot predict how our new server and players will react with older hardware which are not able to accommodate to the advanced Navori code. Supported Android can be found on the Navori website

2. The /DigitalSignage and/NavoriManager interface will be completely removed, so please consider your redirects, the new version will be IPorDNS/QLManager.

3. Please take a backup of your white labeling on the login screen as both the DigitialSignage and NavoriManager will be removed upon upgrade. Please Note: In all versions going forward there will be no erasing of white labeling as this will be normalized in a specific folder of QLManager.

4. Active Directory will also need to be set up again under QLManager within IIS. Follow the FAQ

5. Please be very cautious when moving players. In 2.2.5 any player you have selected prior to logging out will remain selected when logging back into the CMS. Before you move any players, please check the Monitoring Window. If you see a pop up when moving a player this is to indicate there are multiple players selected from multiple groups and all these players WILL be moved.

6. Microsoft Azure Customers, please be aware you may have an issue at the completion of the Server Upgrade where you might not be able to login, please validate that your credentials are re-added to IIS:

Application Pool > ASP.NET v4.0 > Advanced Settings > Identity > Custom

Once your server upgrade is complete, your players will attempt to automatically upgrade themselves to the appropriate version.

We recommend following the steps below prior to the upgrade:

Prior to allowing all your players to upgrade themselves, we suggest testing the new player version on very small subset of players in order to ensure that upgrade does not cause any unforeseen issues on your digital signage network.

Prior to upgrading your Navori QL Server, you MUST backup several elements on the server.

  1. NavoriSQL Database

  2. Media Folder

  3. Inetpub - wwwroot Folder

  4. If possible take a snapshot of the Virtual Machine

Troubleshooting

NavoriQLServer upgrade file has not been downloaded automatically.

(note: In most cases, step 3 resolves the issue)

  1. Make sure that your server has internet access by opening a web browser and going to http://www.navori.com

  2. Check Proxy settings in the config helper tool located in the root NavoriQLServer folder on your server (filename: NavoriQLConfigHelper.exe)

    • Launch NavoriQLConfigHelper.exe, go to the "Proxy" tab (even though you don't use a proxy)

    • Click the "Test proxy" button. You should get a message saying "Success". If you don't it means that your server doesn't have internet access, or the proxy settings are incorrect.

    • See step 1 and resolve the Internet access issue before continuing.

  3. Check your Navori Extranet credentials

    • Login to your QL Manager

    • Select Gear Icon > Server > Properties

    • Navori Extranet Connection, Click the TEST button.

    • If you receive a REGISTERED LICENSE message your credentials are correct.

    • If you receive an "INVALID USERNAME/PASSWORD" message enter the correct credentials (they should be the same creds used to open a support ticket.

    • Click the TEST button.

    • Once you receive the REGISTERED LICENSE message, select Gear Icon > Server > Update. This will force a connection with the Navori Extranet and the new software will start to download.

4. Make sure the NavoriQLServer file has been completely downloaded before you try to run the upgrade file.
