Using the Timeline in the Template Designer

Written by Giuseppe

In Qompose, the new and updated Template Designer features a Timeline which allows you to alter the duration of each individual layer of your Template. In this article, we will outline how to use the Timeline to control the individual timing of each object within your Template.

What's new

Previously, objects within a Template played for the Template's overall duration as a single block. You can now give each object its own independent Start and End time, allowing different elements to appear and disappear at different points, rather than all playing for the same length of time.

Selecting an object on the Timeline

  • Along the bottom of the Template Designer, the Layers panel lists every object added to your Template, each shown as a coloured bar against the timeline

  • Click on the coloured bar in the Layers panel (or select the object directly on the canvas) to bring up its Properties on the right-hand side

Setting an object's Start and End time

  • With your object selected, scroll to the Start and End fields in its Properties panel

  • Enter your desired timing — in the example above, Price 1 is set to appear from 00:00:00 to 00:00:17, while Menu Video runs across the Template's full duration

Each object's bar on the Layers panel will update to reflect its new timing, giving you an at-a-glance view of when everything appears throughout your Template.

Please Note

Use Undo and Redo in the canvas toolbar to step back through changes made while adjusting your Timeline.

Summary

With independent Start and End timing for every object, you're able to build Templates where content appears and disappears exactly when you want it to, rather than every element running for the same fixed duration.
