Tagging in Qompose allows you to enforce content playback rules across your digital signage network. The concept is as follows: a player gets a tag, and piece of content gets a tag, then you can define what happens when the player/content tags match (or do not match).
In it's simplest form, you define whether a piece of content plays or does not play based on the tags applied to the player it has been published to.
This is a great way of isolating the playback of specific media assets to appear on different media players existing within a single group. Take a look at the screenshot below for example:
As these two players are in the same group (West Building > 1st Floor) they will always display the same playlist
As we have applied tags to the players (Left Reception and Right Reception) we're able to have the same playlist published across all players, but have tagged assets appear or not appear during playback thanks to settings we define
With the concept in place, let's look at how to actually create and assign tags.
Creating new tags
Head to the Settings button in the upper right corner of your screen, then select Player Management > Tag Assignment
Click the + Add button to create a new tag
Give your tag a name and press OK
Upon completing the steps above, your new tag will appear below in the TAG table.
The Tag Assignment window
The Tag Assignment window is divided into several areas:
+ Add button — creates a new tag
Tag search field — allows you to search for existing tags
Tag name table — lists every tag that's been created
Player table — lists the Player names you have access to
Player group filter and player search bar — a drop-down to select which group's Players appear in the table below and a search bar to filter the names of players
Bulk player selection tools:
Import CSV, allows you to import a CSV file containing a comma separated list of the names of the Players you wish to display in the PLAYERS table, allowing you to filter what players appear for selection
Clipboard Paste, allows you to paste a list of specific player names of players to filter which selection of players appear in the PLAYERS table
Please Note
When using either Import CSV or Clipboard Paste, you’ll need to ensure the player names match exactly as they are listed in your Navori Domain. Any non-matches will not appear in the PLAYERS table.
Assigning tags to Players
From the Tag table, select the tag you’d like to apply to one (or multiple players), upon selecting your tag it will be highlighted in green
With your tag highlighted, select the checkbox next to the players you’d like to apply the tag to from the Players table on the right (you can also use the checkbox in the header to select ALL players that appear in the PLAYERS table)
Once you have finished with your selection/applying tags to players, press Saving Settings to close the Tag Assignment Window
Filtering your Player selection
A few methods help narrow down the PLAYERS table when working with a large selection of Players:
Use the Groups drop-down to filter by existing groups in your Navori Domain (defaults to All Groups)
Use the Search Bar to filter by characters appearing in a Player's name
You can also filter using a CSV file or Clipboard Paste — see below for both processes.
In addition to the two filtering methods mentioned above, you can also filter players using a CSV file containing the exact names of all the players you wish to apply tags to, or using the Clipboard Paste option, which allows you to copty/paste the names of all of the players you wish to apply tags to. See the following section for more information on these processes:
Bulk filter Players using a CSV file
Create a CSV file listing your Player names exactly as they appear in your Navori Domain, separated by commas (for example, "Player 1, Player 2, Player 3")
Click Import CSV, confirm the dialogue box, then select your CSV file and press Open
Any matching names will appear in the PLAYERS table, ready for you to select and tag; non-matches will be skipped.
Bulk filter Players using Clipboard Paste
From within the Tag Assignment window, click Clipboard Paste
Enter or paste your Player names exactly as they appear in your Navori Domain, with each name on its own row, then press OK
Any matching names will appear in the PLAYERS table and can then be selected; non-matches will not be displayed. You can then complete the Tag Assignment process by pressing OK.
Deleting tags
Click the corresponding X in the right-hand column of the Tag tabke to delete a tag
Please Note
Deleting tags from the Tag Assignment area is a permanant action and will result in a tag being premanantly deleted from your Navori server. Tags cannot be restored once deleted and will need to be created once again.
To remove specific tags from specific players, simply de-select the player in the Players table with the chosen tag selected and then click Save Settings, or see the following section.
Assigning and removing tags for individual Players
Tags can be assigned and removed from two areas, from the Tag Assignment area (as highlighted in the previous sections of this article) or from the Player Properties of your media player.
Please Note
Tags can't be created from the Player Properties level — only assigned or removed there, using tags already created in the Tag Assignment window.
From the Groups/Players panel, click the 3 dots next to the name of your player (or right-click then click Edit)
Click the Attributes tab
Scroll down to the Tag section
From the select tab drop-down, you can select from the list of available tags that have been previously added to your server from the Tag Assignment area
In the Tags table, you can select the accompanying X to remove any tags that have been applied to your player already
With your Players tagged, they're ready to have matching content assigned to them — head to [Tagging your Content] to complete the setup.
