Tagging your Content

Written by Giuseppe

Requirements before you begin

  • Any tags you wish to use must already be created and assigned to at least one Player — see Tagging your Players before continuing

Tagging is a two-step process: first you assign tags to your Players, then you assign matching tags to your content. Once a tag has been created and assigned to a Player, it becomes available to reuse across as many pieces of content as you need.

By default, when a Player's tag matches a piece of content's tag, that content will play on that Player. You can also configure the opposite — excluding content from playing when a match occurs.

Tagging your content

You can tag any content, including media files, web URLs, streaming video, live TV, and Templates. Tags are assigned from within a content item's own properties, either when you first add it to your library or at any point afterward (providing your Tag has already beem created in the Tag Assignment area).

  • Click the 3 dots on your asset (or right-click then select Edit) to open the Asset Properties

  • Select the Playback rules tab

From here, you can begin configuring the Tag on your asset, see the screenshot and following section below:

Within the Active Tags section, you'll work your way through the following settings:

  • Include / Exclude toggle — determines whether matching content is shown or hidden. Selecting Include plays the content on any Player with a matching tag (this is the default). Selecting Exclude does the opposite — the content will not play on any Player with a matching tag.

  • Tag Mode — choose between Partial match and Exact match (see please note below for descriptions of how these work)

  • Tag selection drop-down — lists every tag available that has been created in the Tag Assignment area, selecting a tag will immediately add this to the asset and it will be shown in the Assigned tag list below

  • Assigned tag list — shows every tag currently applied to this content item (click the X beside a tag to remove it)

Please Note

Partial match means a Player only needs at least one of the content's assigned tags to trigger playback. Exact match means the Player must carry every tag assigned to the content — if even one is missing, the content will not play.

Every time you select a new tag from the Select Tag drop-down, it will add a new tag to the asset. At any time you can remove this using the X beside the tag, and when you're finished, press Save Settings to close the Asset Properties.

With tags assigned to both your Players and your content, Qompose will automatically apply your playback rules once published to players with the matching tags — showing or hiding content across your network exactly as you've defined, without needing separate playlists for every audience or location.
