Requirements before you begin
Full administrator access (Technical Profile settings are restricted to full administrator accounts — a regular user with an administrator user profile can't access or modify these settings)
A Technical Profile is a reusable configuration template for Players — instead of setting up default content, software updates, storage limits, playback behaviour, and advertising settings individually on every single Player, you configure them once in a profile, then assign that profile to as many Players or groups as you like. Change the profile, and every Player carrying it updates in one action rather than requiring dozens of individual edits.
In this article, we will outline what's configurable within a Technical Profile, and how to apply one across your network.
Accessing the Technical Profile
Click Settings in the top right-hand corner of your screen, then select Player Management > Technical Profile
Every QL server starts with a single default profile. You can use it as-is, edit its values, or create additional profiles as needed.
The Technical Profile panel is divided into four tabs: General, Advertising, Settings, and Advanced.
Creating a new Technical Profile
To create a new Technical Profile:
Click the 3 dots in the top-right-hand side of the Technical Profile Settings panel
Select New from the drop-down menu
Enter a name for your Technical Profile
Press OK
Upon completing the steps above, you'll have created a new Technical Profile and can begin configuring its preferences.
Recalling an Existing Technical Profile
To recall an existing Technical Profile:
Click the name of the currently-loaded Technical Profile at the top of the Technical Profile Settings panel
Select your desired Technical profile from the drop-down menu and it will be immediately loaded, with its preferences shown in the settings below
Upon completing the steps above, you'll have recalled/loaded an existing Technical Profile and can begin configuring its preferences should you wish to.
Configuring your Technical Profile Preferences
General
Display control
Here's where you can define an on/off schedule for your Player's screen, saving energy and extending its usable life — by default, screens remain on 24/7 until configured otherwise.
For each day of the week, set an on/off time under the Event 1 and/or Event 2 columns by pressing the + button
An empty checkbox means the screen will be OFF at the time you have set, a checked checkbox (✅) means the screen will turn ON at your chosen time
If a day needs a second on/off window, click the + icon under your chosen day to add it
Event 1 and Event 2 must always differ (one will schedule the screen to turn ON, whilst the other will schedule the screen to turn OFF)
Please Note
Each day supports up to two separate on/off events, so a screen can, for example, turn on for a morning window and again for an evening window on the same day.
Screen off: empty schedule — when enabled, the Player's screen turns off entirely on any day with no schedule configured
Smart efficiency — enables a configurable idle period, set via Smart efficiency time, after which the screen turns off automatically
Please Note
Display schedules can be overridden for an individual Player from within its own Player Properties, taking precedence over the Technical Profile's setting for that Player only.
Default Media
Setting a piece of content here lets you determine which media will be shown whenever a Player's screen is on and no Playlist is currently scheduled via the Scheduling Grid.
This is unique to the Content Library within the CMS, and if you wish to use content from here, you will need to upload it manually from your PC using the steps below:
Click Upload, select your file, and confirm
Please Note
Image duration can be set manually via the Duration field. Video duration is detected automatically and cannot be altered.
Advertising
The Advertising tab is where you configure advertising pricing, airtime allocation, and audience forecasting — everything the Advertising Module needs before this Player can be used in a campaign.
It's split into two sections:
Advertising — pricing (Hivestack key, Vistar network/key, Cost per Play/View), and Airtime mode, which sets how much of this Player's Operating Hours the Advertising Module is allowed to use
Audience data — this Player's own forecast of expected audience, used to check whether a campaign's Views goal is achievable before it's booked. Populated automatically for Stix Players via AI audience analytics, or manually for other Player types using a Monthly total, a Preset pattern (Retail, Corporate, QSR, Transport), or a Custom day-by-day breakdown
For the full setup process, including pricing models, Airtime Mode, and detailed configuration of Audience data, see Preparing your Navori Server for Advertising.
Settings
Planned maintenance
Control when and how your Player receives software updates.
Download Update — check to enable, then set how often the Player checks for a new update (Check Every [number] [Day/Week/Month]) and at what time
Update Player — check to enable, then choose ASAP or a specific day and time for the update to install
Please Note
Schedule your download and install times at least 30 minutes apart, so a Player never attempts to download an update and install one simultaneously.
Daily publish — check Enable, then set a time and a Tolerance (in minutes) to account for other scheduled tasks, such as a reboot, potentially overlapping
Please Note
Days downloaded determines how many days of programming a Player stores locally (default: 20 days). If a Player goes longer than this without an update, it will fall back to Default Media, even with further content already scheduled. Enabling Daily publish is the recommended way to avoid this.
Daily reboot — set a Reboot at time; this is a daily event and cannot be disabled
Storage management
Storage Alert Threshold — set separate GB thresholds for OS and Content storage; once free space drops below this value, the Player's status indicator turns yellow and an email alert is sent to authorized users
Purge unused content — check to enable, then set how often the Player checks for content that's no longer part of any current or future program (deleted from a Playlist, or expired) and removes it
Synchronization & logs
Synchronize Clock — syncs the Player's internal clock with the server's time (enabled by default; not recommended to change unless advised by Navori support)
Analytics frequency — how often the Player uploads its logs (not recommended to change unless advised by Navori support)
Advanced
Windows Playback Settings
Log Level — controls the verbosity of Windows Player logging
Please Note
We recommend leaving Windows Playback Settings at their default values unless advised by Navori support.
STiX Playback Settings
Orientation — None, Landscape, Portrait, Landscape reversed, or Portrait reversed
Resolution — Full HD or 4K
For remote engine positioning (X/Y/Width/Height), see Overriding your Player's Engine Position (Technical Profile).
BrightSign/ChromeOS Playback Settings
Orientation — None, Landscape, or Portrait
Legacy
Detailed descriptions of each parameter to be added above ^
Assigning a Technical Profile
You can assign a Technical Profile at either the group or individual Player level:
For a whole group:
For an individual Player:
Open the Player Properties by right-clicking on your player and pressing Edit
Click the Attributes tab
In the Schedules section, select your Technical Profile from the drop-down
Please Note
After modifying a Technical Profile currently in use, you must publish an update to the affected Players — otherwise, the changes won't reach the devices.
Summary
With your Technical Profile configured across General, Advertising, Settings, and Advanced, you're able to apply a consistent set of behaviors across every Player assigned to it — while still overriding individual settings at the Player level where needed.
