Managing and Organizing Players:

Users can manage and organize QL Players by creating groups and sub-groups.

By default, players in a common group will share the same:

  • Content

  • Playlists

  • Schedules

GROUPS / SUB-GROUPS

The top group of any network tree is the “root” level. Content and playlists assigned to this level will be global, meaning they can be reused in any sub-group directly below.

Each group below the root level can also host its own series of sub-groups (also known as sub-levels). Each sub-group can be assigned its own content and playlists (these are deemed to be local and specific to that unique sub-group). This type of organization lets administrators restrict access to specific areas of the player network.

In the example above, users who are given access to sub-group A can only see the players in that group. They can only manage the content and programming for Players 1 and 2.

NOTE: Players are always assigned to the lowest level in the network tree. In the example above, players must either be assigned to Group A or Group B. Once these sub-groups were created under the root level group (Training), it is no longer possible to assign players directly under Training. Players must now be assigned to one of the existing sub-groups, or an entirely new sub-group (say, Group C).

Once players are assigned to a group or sub-group, you can’t create sub-groups under that level. You need to move the players out of the group so you can create the sub-groups you need, and then cut and paste the players back into their respective levels.

essential v.s. professional licensed players GROUPING:

There are some limitations when moving around different player type. These limitations are bound by the fact that players are licensed under two different types: Essential & Professional licenses.

The system does not allow to store two differently licensed players under the same group/sub-group, this is because both licenses give different access types to features within the QL CMS, see below.

Professional Player License Dashboard:

Essential Player License Dashboard:

As you might notice, the dashboard contains a whole new section on the Professional license. For this reason, the system will block you from moving an Essential licensed player into a group containing Professional licensed players:

You will encounter the same error if you try to move an Essential licensed player into a group which USED to contain Professional licensed player features:

Above, you can see that group Test-Pro0 does not contain any Professional licensed players, but it does still contain the remnant scheduling and professional templates that were created for use by Pro players. Because of this, you will have to delete all scheduling and templates in this group before you are able to move the Essential player into this folder!
